Sven B. Schreiber Yesterday I've bought Andrew Roussak's album "No Trespassing". As I found myself listening to it all day long, over and over again, the desire to get more of this great stuff grew considerably, culminating in the purchase of the brand-new "Storm Warning". It's once again quite obvious who are Andrew Roussak's keyboard heroes - Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman shine through several tracks. The album comprises two stunning rock ballads with vocals, and especially Nadia Ayche does a sublime performance, slightly reminiscent of Annie Haslam. This album's classical adaptation is a song by late Renaissance composer John Dowland - an unusual choice, but a great one. As usual on prog albums, the longest track ("Malta Sketches") is the weakest, suffering of the infamous PRSS (Pointless Riff Stuffing Syndrome), but at least it gets progressively better towards the end. Favorite track: Chasing Shadows.

Since Carsten Pieper writes so enthusiastically about this band, I had to give it a try, and really, I'm very enchanted! Well, I always can rely on Carsten's opinion... So this is a demo?! That's kind of an understatement. It's much better than lots of official releases cranked out by other bands nowadays, and sold for big bucks. This phenomenon reminds me of the superb "demo" issued back in 2003 by Jordsjø's compatriots Wobbler, containing a similar kind of retro prog in the vein of early 70's kraut. Sven B. Schreiber

Their recent releases Jordsjø and Jordsjø II have been labeled as ""our first and second demo" by the band. So this might be their first real album..? Anyway, this is wonderful retro prog from Norway. If you're a fan of either the old masters (early Genesis, Camel or the gentler tracks by the early Crimson King) or the new ones (to stay in Norway, say, Wobbler or Tusmørke), check this one out! I've hesitated a long time before purchasing my first Pete Jones album, because he's got quite some ambiguous reputation as a "Genesis" epigone. Well, after listening closely to "The Depths of Winter", I think this suspicion isn't really substantiated. Granted, he clearly draws on the 70's symphonic rock heritage, but not to a greater extent than many others counted among the typical representatives of the neo-prog genre. While this album contains a couple of tracks that I won't listen to very frequently, this is more than compensated by overwhelming monster ballads like my favorite track "Hygge". Pete Jones' voice is outstanding, and Mark Wardle's occasional brass arrangements are an additional pleasure. Sven B. Schreiber
